A large container vessel in the dry dock. You can see the so called bulbous bow of a container ship, which is constructed for fuel consumption reduction. There was a time, where to many ships existed in the world trade and all agreed to save fuel and perform slow-steaming, meaning sailing by most economic low speed. For this, a lot of ships needed to have new and modified bulbous bows to meet better performance standards with lower speed. Here you can see the sections of old and new bows on the yard and one intact on the ship in the dock.

The photo was taken in March 2016 in one of the biggest ship yards of the world.
